Reindeer long sledding departing Tromsø
This reindeer long sledding activity is a must-do experience! The tour starts from Tromsø: we pick you up in Tromsø and drive 30 minutes north to an authentic Sami reindeer camp. It’s owned by a traditional Sami reindeer herding family who is proud to show you what their daily life is like. You will go for a 25 to 30-minute sledding ride around the valley and along the coast. Sit back and relax. You will have plenty of time to soak up the views and take photos of the reindeer, mountains and fjord.
Feed the reindeer
The tour then continues with feeding the reindeer: just grab a bucket full of yummy reindeer food and distribute it around. You will make some reindeer friends! There are about 300 hungry but harmless reindeer around the camp.
Sami food and reindeer herding stories
Have some hot drinks and delicious bidos (traditional Sami reindeer stew) * cooked over the fire in the gamme (traditional Sami hut). After lunch, gather around the fire in the lavvu (Sami herdsmen’s tent) where a Sami guide will tell you more about Sami culture and perform a joik (traditional Sami song).
Note: The sledding ride is subject to snow conditions (If there is not enough snow, we offer “Reindeer feeding and Sami culture” instead)
*Vegetarian option possible
This adventure includes:
- Scenic transfers (30 min each way) by comfortable coach
- Knowledgeable English-speaking Sami guide
- Traditional Sami meal: bidos (vegetarian option available)
- Hot drinks and snacks
- Storytelling and joik
- Reindeer feeding
- Reindeer sledding (25-30 minutes)
